CITYNET proudly staged the first CITYNET Young Professionals Congress on Saturday, October 12 at the Seoul Global Center. The CITYNET Young Professionals (CYP), a voluntary body of students and recent graduates committed to urban sustainability, have spent the last three months harnessing the CITYNET network to conduct innovative research on: Multicultural Education Policy, Young North Korean Refugees, Green Solid Waste Management, and Transport Oriented Development. With an Expert Panel including representatives from The Asia Foundation, The Korea Transport Institute, Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul National University and Mulmangcho School, the Congress gave CYP members an opportunity to showcase their findings, receive constructive feedback from industry leaders and engage in lively discussion. The research team deemed by the Expert Panel to have banded together to produce the most robust, original and relevant paper and presentation, will receive the CYP 2013 Award at the CYP program’s official launch during the CITYNET Seoul Congress 2013 in November.
As the importance of engaging today’s youth (and tomorrow’s city leaders) in the challenges facing cities is only set to inch up the political agenda, CITYNET is looking forward to working with the inaugural CYP members to increase the membership, activities and geographic spread of this program in 2014.
