CityNet Cluster Leads and Co-Leads are invited to attend the Regional Strategic Meeting to be held on 23 July 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With the new Leads and Co-Leads elected at last year’s CityNet Congress, this meeting aims to deepen the cluster engagement while developing short and medium term plan. The meeting activity will feature discussion as to how they could better synergize their efforts to provide more organizational efficiency and maximum impact to each cluster members. Infrastructure Cluster Meeting and KLRTC Workshop

The CityNet Infrastructure Cluster Co-leader Kuala Lumpur City Hall will host the 2018 Infrastructure Cluster Meeting in conjunction with the Workshop with the Kuala Lumpur Regional Training Center focusing on Sustainable Urban Transportation for the New Urban Agenda from 24-26 July 2018. National Chapter Strategy Workshop

CityNet Secretariat invites all National Chapter hosts to participate in the National Chapter Strategy Workshop to be held in Makati on 25-26 June 2018. This workshop will be a valuable opportunity for all Chapters to increase the organizational and project management, and fundraising initiative. Designed for National Chapter focal points, this workshop will also feature resources persons from Cities Development Initiative for Asia, CityNet Yokohama Project Office, and other agencies relevant to project development. CityNet at the 5th Korea Green Innovation Days 2018

CityNet participated in one of the working session of the 5th Annual Korea Green Innovation Days 2018 in Seoul organised by the Korea Green Growth Trust Fund - World Bank Group. The session focused on Accelerating Green Growth Solutions: Connect, Share and Co-create Actionable Learning. Some institutions and city networks like CityNet initiate various efforts to encourage learning process among peers leveraging virtual platforms like the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform. The discussion centered around several topics that also addressed questions like why capacity building and applied learning are important.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy seminar in Jakarta

To participate in climate mitigation CityNet and the Jakarta Research Council collaborate with the business sector, PT Jaya Ancol and GrEEnAcc Institute, conducted a workshops on 3 May 2018, aiming to accelerate the implementation of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. One of the focus area of this workshop is to increase the level of community participation and awareness in climate change mitigation actions.

The Chicago Forum on Global Cities

We are delighted to partner with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs for the 2018 Chicago Forum on Global Cities, held June 6-8. The Chicago Forum on Global Cities, hosted by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Financial Times, is a three-day international conference that raises provocative questions about the influence of global cities and how they can solve pressing global challenges. Participating thought leaders an decision makers create new connections and develop innovative solutions to advance in their own cities.

Yokohama City Visits Seoul City and the CityNet Secretariat

The International Relations Bureau of the Yokohama City represented by the Director and Manager of Development Cooperation Division, Ms. Yoko Suzuki and Ms. Ruriko Kawaguchi, visited the CityNet Secretariat on 24 May. During the visit they shared the Disaster Cluster activity plan for 2018 as the Cluster Leader. Ms. Suzuki and Ms. Kawaguchi also had a chance to greet the CityNet Assistant Secretary General Kang Pil Young who thanked Yokohama City for being proactive as Cluster Leader and CityNet President Emeritus with tangible achievements.

World Resources Institute Ross Center invites applicants to participate in the inaugural WRI Ross Prize for Cities. The Institute seeks submissions from visionary groups – public, private and local – who have led transformative projects that created ripple effects on social, economic and environmental outcomes beyond the places and times in which they started. 11th CityNet Disaster Cluster

As pledged by Iloilo city during the 10th CITYNET Disaster Cluster Seminar last year in Yokohama, the seminar this year will be hosted by the Iloilo City Government from August 2 to 4, 2018. The deadline to register is May 30, 2018.

Call for Expression of Interests (EOI)

CITYNET Yokohama Project Office is calling for Expression of Interests (EOI) for programs and activities that CITYNET members wish to participate in with the CITYNET Yokohama Project Office. The EOIs received will be evaluated for their content, and further discussions will be held to develop a full project proposal. The form can be downloaded from CITYNET Yokohama Project Office web site and the deadline to submit is May 31, 2018.

CityNet Youth Japan Completes Field Trip to Nepal

Members of CITYNET Youth Japan (CYJ) organized a field trip to Nepal in April 2018 to study disaster risk reduction activities in Nepal and to hold discussions with the local youth association. The members of CYJ assisted in a disaster prevention event organized at Hindu Vidyapith School, located in Lalitpur. The school is also one of the target schools of the ongoing project through Plus Arts, Disaster Prevention Education and Material Development Project.

CYO Welcomes New Interns

CITYNET Yokohama is happy to welcome two new interns to the office. Liam Marshall and Sarah Kim will be working with CYO and learning about CITYNET’s work over the next four months. Liam Marshall is a Philosophy student from the University of Victoria and hopes that he will learn about Disaster Risk Reduction and international cooperation. Sarah Kim is an Urban Social Management student from Yokohama National University and wants to learn how the cities cooperate with each other to build better cities.
