2017 Colombo CityNet Congress

The Asia Pacific region will meet in Colombo to discuss and share local solutions for sustainable development - for our city, our future. 2017 Colombo CityNet Congress will convene from November 5-8, 2017 at Colombo, Sri Lanka. This year’s congress marks CityNet’s 30th Anniversary, and will convene more than 300 international and local participants across the Asia Pacific region.


In the coming days, we will reflect on our 30 year journey together, starting from Nagoya 1987, to Colombo 2017. We will work collectively to find the answers to the region’s future challenges.

Where do you get your policy ideas? 
The Urban SDG Knowledge Platform brings the best ideas for building sustainable cities in the Asia Pacific by connecting knowledge and cities together. The Platform has been re-launched for public engagement. 

We invite all of our members to access the platform to exchange knowledge, solutions and innovation, engage in opportunities to work together with cities and organisations for sustainable development. Access RECIPRO:CITY vol.01, the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform publication celebrating the first exchange of sustainable urban practices in the Asia Pacific region.

Call for Host City of CityNet Executive Committee Meeting 2018-2019
 
 
CityNet Secretariat is encouraging its members to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) to bid for the hosting of the 2018 and 2019 CityNet Executive Committee Meetings. Secretary-General Vijay Jagannathan said hosting Executive Committee Meeting is a privileged opportunity to highlight the city’s cultural and historical heritage and best practices to international colleagues. Interested cities can contact the CityNet Secretariat for further information.

Teacher Training Program Commences in Colombo
 
 
Teacher training on primary education started in Colombo organized by CITYNET Yokohama Project Office targeting eight public and private schools under the authority of Colombo Municipal Council (CMC). Opening the training, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Colombo Municipal Council Ms. Thamara Mallawaarachchi expressed high hopes for the teachers to learn new techniques in developing creative educational material which can be applied to the schools in Colombo.

Students visit office to learn of CITYNET activities
 
 
Throughout September and October, a total of about 150 elementary students from schools in Yokohama City visited the CYO office. This was part of an event hosted by Yokohama Association for International Communications and Exchanges (YOKE) to help children understand what international organizations do and their roles in the international society.
