Registration is now open: 2017 CityNet Congress

 

Registration is now open for the 2017 CityNet Congress that will be held on 5-8 November in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Taking the theme of "Our City, Our Future: Sharing Local Solutions for Sustainable Development", the 2017 CityNet Congress will give a unique opportunity to voice your cities' challenges and solutions as well as network and form partnerships with other CityNet members, partners, and business leaders. It will consist of the 35th Session of the Executive Committee, General Council, Mayor's Forum/International Forum, the 36th Session of the Executive Committee, technical sessions and site visits.

Call for parallel session for 2017 CityNet Congress 
 
 

CityNet invites you to submit a proposal to hold a side events during this year's Congress that will be held on 5-8 November in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The CityNet Congress 2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the Network of cities and stakeholders commited to sustainable urban development in the Asia Pacific region. All proposals will be considered and decided upon through a selection committee at the CityNet Secretariat. Represent Your City as a CityNet Elected Official: Deadline 28 April 

 
 
Nominations for CityNet elected positions are now open! This November, elections will take place for a President, a first and a second Vice President, members of the Executive Committee and an Auditor. Elected officials work to direct the vision and activities of CityNet from 2018-2021, and promote their cities in the process. The CityNet Secretariat is developing the Medium Term Plan for 2018-2021 which will serve the purpose of reviewing past work and establish a vision for the future to improve the CityNet's role.

This Plan will be carried out using the input of members through the survey. Korean cities exchange best practices with European cities
 
 

Facilitated by CityNet, four Korean cities are paired with four European cities to exchange their best practices in sustainable urbanisation. This is part of the EU's World Cities Project supported by the European Parliament to promote long-term cooperations between the select cities. The Kick-Off Meeting was held in Seoul on 14 March, which was then followed by a series of discussions and technical visits from 15-17 March.

Building Leaders in Urban Transport Planning (LUTP) Seoul 2017
 
 

The Korea Transport Institute, Seoul Metropolitan Government and the World Bank are jointly hosting the 6th LUTP-Seoul on September 10-16, 2017. This workshop will again take place in Seoul, and cover important issues for urban transport leaders such as integrated transport planning, ICT in transportation, PPP, and other key challenges. Participants will have opportunities to participate in presentations, group discussions, site visits to Korea's cutting-edge transport related institutions, and networking sessions.

CBARAD Project concludes with a more resilient Iloilo City
 
 
The five-year project (2012-2017) for CBARAD I and II combined came to a remarkable conclusion last week in Iloilo with concrete outcomes making the city of Iloilo a more resilient city. The sustainability of the project activities is now institutionalised through a number of ordinances passed in Iloilo which allows for planning, budgeting and implementation of various disaster risk reduction activities introduced through the project.

Nepalese Engineers Visit Yokohama as a part of Training
 
 

As a part of a continuing city-to-city cooperation between Yokohama and Kathmandu, the second year training on structural and seismic engineering commenced in Yokohama inviting engineers from Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office. The second year training focuses on building inspections, steel frame and wooden structures as well as retrofitting techniques.

CityNet Japan Forum on C2C Cooperation for Post-Earthquake Support on Reconstruction

 
 

The annual CITYNET Japan Forum to disseminate international cooperation activities of CITYNET conducted through the City of Yokohama was held on March 15 in Yokohama. The 21st CITYNET japan Forum focused on the city-to-city cooperation between Yokohama and Kathmandu on the post-earthquake support for reconstruction.

CYO welcomes new intern from Meiji Gakuin University
 
 

Twice a year, CYO welcomes interns from Japanese universities to experience working at the office. For 2017, we welcome Ms. Suzuki from Meiji Gakuin University to the office for the 100-hour internship. Ms. Suzuki is a 4th year student with a major in Public Administration and Developmental Policies.
