The Urban SDG Knowledge Platform to provide immediate impact to the CityNet network

The Urban SDG Knowledge Platform will be officially introduced to the wider public on September 30, 2017. The Urban SDG Knowledge Platform is an online database co-managed by CityNet, UN ESCAP and Seoul Metropolitan Government which will serve as a centrepiece for the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform project. It is an initiative to follow up and review the implementation of SDGs in the Asia Pacific region through fostering city-to-city cooperation and providing a repository of good urban practices contributing to SDGs.

Through the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform project, CityNet will significantly scale up its efforts to foster sustainable urban development of the Asia Pacific region. Candidates for the CityNet Office Bearers 2018-2021

We are pleased to inform our members the official candidates for CityNet Office Bearers for the term 2018-2021. Elections for the office bearers will be conducted during the General Council session on November 7, 2017. There will be open nominations for those positions that have insufficient number of nominations. CityNet members are expected to vote for the office bearers during the Elections. The CityNet Congress will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on November 5-8, 2017.

As the 2017 CityNet Congress that will held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 5-8 November is coming closer, check out the most updated program schedule on the Congress official website. This year's Congress is focusing on "Our City, Our Future: Sharing Local Solutions for Sustainable Development". We encourage city leaders across the Asia Pacific region to join this unmissable opportunity to voice urban challenges and form partnership with various urban stakeholders, from water management to the role of local governments in implementing SDGs.

Call for Host City of CityNet Executive Committee Meeting 2018-2019

CityNet Secretariat is encouraging its members to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) to bid for the hosting of the 2018 and 2019 CityNet Executive Committee Meetings. Secretary-General Vijay Jagannathan said hosting Executive Committee Meeting is a privileged opportunity to highlight the city's cultural and historical heritage and best practices to international colleagues. Interested cities can contact the CityNet Secretariat for further information.

Call for Host City of CityNet Congress 2021

CityNet Secretariat encourages its members to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) to bid for the hosting of the next CityNet Congress due to be held in 2021. The CityNet Congress will consist of CityNet General Council, legislative meetings, Back-to-Back seminar/workshops, and site visits, among others. At the General Council elections will be held for the Main Office Bearers of CityNet for the period 2022-2025. Interested cities can contact the CityNet Secretariat for further information.

CityNet services for Thimphu Thromde officers

CityNet Secretariat held a learning workshop on Seoul City's best practices for local government officers from Thimphu Thromde, Bhutan on September 13-15. 2017. The five-member senior delegation learned about Seoul city's solid waste management practices, urban landscape management, traffic road management, and local drainage system.

2017 Urban Environmental Accords Melaka Summit

The Urban Environmental Accords (UEA) and the Melaka State Government of Malaysia organized 2017 UEA Melaka Summit on the topic of "Green City, Sustainable City" from September 7 to 9, 2017. CityNet Special Adviser Mary Jane Ortega gave a keynote speech on the 'Knowledge Sharing for Sustainable Cities' and had a meeting with vice mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City to discuss possible cooperation.

2017 Seoul Waterworks Workshop

15 city officials from 8 cities participated in the 2017 Seoul Waterworks Workshop from September 24-30. The workshop was organized by the Office of Waterworks Seoul Metropolitan Government, Korea Water and Wastewater Work Association and CityNet Secretariat. Through the City Report, SWOT and PDM, participants shared cities' current challenges and potential solutions.

Who's tackling urban water challenges?

New CDP infographic report 'Who's tackling urban water challenges?', released at World Water Week in Stockholm, shows how cities and companies are collaborating in response to climate change and urban population growth. This infographic was produced in partnership with AECOM and supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies. It uses data gathered from 569 cities and 1,432 companies who disclose to CDP.

CityNet Yokohama Project Office

Yokohama hosts 10th CITYNET Disaster Cluster Seminar

This year's Disaster Cluster Seminar was organized in the City of Yokohama jointly with the World Bank and CITYNET Yokohama Project Office. CITYNET attendees included 27 participants who represented 15 CITYNET Disaster Cluster members and 2 non-member cities. The World Bank attendees included 29 participants, from 5 countries and World Bank experts on DRR.

Japanese teachers visit Nepal to learn about disaster education practices in Nepal through Plus Arts

A group of 18 people including 11 Japanese teachers visited Nepal at the end of August to share their experiences and learn from initiatives in Nepal through the School Based Sustainable Disaster Risk Reduction project. This initiative was organised by JICA Kansai and Nepal, where interested teachers raised their hand to participate in this exchange program.

Students visit office to learn of CITYNET activities

Yokohama Association for International Communications and Exchanges (YOKE) hosts the "Summer Global Citizen Exchange Session" (Chikyu Shimin Kouza) annually for students and young adults to visit the international organizations at Pacifico Yokohama. This year CITYNET Yokohama Project Office welcomed three students who are interested in working for an international organization upon their graduation.

CYO welcomes three interns from the University of Victoria, Yokohama National University, and Kokugakuin University

Erina Iso, Ichiro Mozawa, and Rasheedah White are welcomed as interns at CYO. Erina Iso is a student at Kokugakuin University in the department of foreign languages and culture studies and wishes to learn more about disaster risk management. Ichiro Mozawa is studying European History at Yokohama National University and hopes that his internship helps him to work at an international organization. Rasheedah White is a student at the University of Victoria in British History and is excited to apply her studies with CityNet.
