37th Executive Committee Meeting Registration deadline: 7 September 2018

The 37th Executive Committee Meeting will take place in Da Nang on 21-22 November 2018. At this annual meeting, CityNet’s Executive Committee Members discuss the organization’s activities and plans. The meeting will be held back-to-back with the International Seminar ‘Investing in Sustainable Urbanization’ which will focus on city finance and urban infrastructure investments. This event will provide a platform for city leaders, practitioners and finance experts to share best practices and discuss how smart infrastructure investments can foster sustainable urbanization.

Call for host city of CityNet Executive Committee Meeting 2019

CityNet Secretariat is encouraging its members to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) to bid for the hosting of the 2018 and 2019 CityNet Executive Committee Meetings. Secretary-General Vijay Jagannathan said hosting Executive Committee Meeting is a privileged opportunity to highlight the city’s cultural and historical heritage and best practices to international colleagues.

Call for Expression of Interest: Pilot City on Localizing SDGs

UN ESCAP and UN-Habitat invite cities and towns in Asia and the Pacific to join the project “Integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into local action in support of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Asia and the Pacific”. The aim of this multi-year project is to assist pilot cities in undertaking a participatory process that works towards transforming their urban resource management into more sustainable systems.

Climate Leadership Programme phase II

Following the success of the first phase of Climate Leadership Programme held in 2017, CItyNet Climate Change cluster leader Jakarta City organises the second phase taking place in October this year to focus on building vision of future city management and leadership development, which will contain: collective action, multi-stakeholders dialogue, future city management, reflection into a prototype idea. 2018 Seoul Waterworks Workshop

CityNet supports the 2018 Seoul Waterworks Workshop, which will take place in Seoul on October 14-20, 2018. Organized by the Seoul Waterworks Authority of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the workshop aims to enhance the participants' knowledge and skills for applying water supply and sewage treatment.

2018 Leaders in Urban Transport Planning (LUTP)

The Korea Transport Institute (KOTI) is hosting the 2018 Leaders in Urban Transport Planning (LUTP) from 28th October to 3rd November 2018 in Seoul, associated with the World Bank (WB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB). The objective of the program is to build capacity for holistic and comprehensive planning at leadership levels. Seoul has been renowned for its urban sustainability with its successful transport reform in 2004 and selected as a place of venue for LUTP since 2012. Senior level decision makers in the field of transport planning for the central or provincial government are highly recommended to take this course.

Smart Sustainable Pioneering Model Project

Represented by Deputy Secretary General Aisa Tobing, CityNet participated as one of the speakers in the launching of Smart Sustainable Pioneering Model (SS) Project organised by the World Future Council and China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on 21 August 2018 in Shenzhen, China. International and national best practices of smart sustainable cities were introduced in this session. This SS Project launch was a key part of the 4th China Smart City International Expo and Forum.

Penang – A Rice Bowl State under Threat?

Seberang Perai has undergone much urbanisation over the last decade. This has led to concerns over land use: warehouses, industrial plants and housing have risen up in the municipality’s landscape, replacing its sprawling paddy fields. 11th CITYNET Disaster Cluster Seminar concludes in Iloilo

The 2018 Disaster Cluster Seminar was hosted by Iloilo City from August 2-4th. This year’s seminar was designed to look into the four priorities of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) and its application to the works and initiatives of cities. It aimed to share knowledge in DRR to increase the ability of cities to prepare for, respond to, and adapt to the ever-changing magnitude and scope of hazards and disasters.

Disaster Cluster members commit to Iloilo Resolution for Action on DRR

The 11th CITYNET Disaster Cluster passed the Iloilo Resolution for Action on Disaster Risk Reduction by CITYNET Disaster Cluster members which was signed by all participating members. Further details on the content of the resolution may be obtained from CITYNET Yokohama Project Office.

CYO Welcomes two new interns

CYO welcomes Karizki Hadyanafi and Waka Sato as new interns. Karizki Hadyanafi, is recent graduate from the Master of Environmental Management and Development program at the Australian National University. He is interested in disaster risk reduction issues and keen to learn about fostering partnerships for building resilience in Asia-Pacific cities. Waka Sato, is Law student from Kokugakuin University studying international relations and law, and is interested in international cooperation.
