CityNet new office bearers elected at the 2017 Congress
The Mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon continues his leadership as the President of the largest association of urban stakeholders in the Asia Pacific region committed to sustainable development as agreed upon at the CityNet General Council. The President of CityNet is assisted by two Vice Presidents that were newly elected, namely Makati City Government and the Municipal Government of Kuala Lumpur. CityNet elected its main office bearers that also consist of nine other Executive Committee members.

Common challenges and hurdles in Asian and European cities in the 21st Century
CityNet Deputy Secretary General Dr. Sangbum Kim spoke at the “Asia Innova 2017: Connecting Smart Cities between Asia and Europe” held by Casa Asia in Madrid, Spain on 21 November. Dr. Kim explained how increasing connections between cities could contribute to the global sustainable development and create new opportunities to foster business collaboration between Asia and Europe. This programme brought leading global experts and professional experts from Asia’s most dynamic technological cities and bring them together with local representatives to exchange knowledge, to learn from each other and to explore future opportunities of collaboration.
2017 CityNet Congress  in pictures
CityNet held its 8th Congress in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 5-8 November 2017. This significant event also marked the network’s 30th anniversary particularly in its effort in creating sustainable cities across the Asia Pacific region. The 2017 CityNet Congress consisted of the 35th Session of the Executive Committee, General Council, Mayor’s Dialogue, concurrent sessions, the 36th Session of the Executive Committee, technical sessions and site visits.

8th CityNet Congress and General Council convenes in Colombo
The 8th CityNet Congress was held in Colombo this month to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of CityNet. The congress attended by more than 250 international delegates and 100 local participants was hosted by Colombo Municipal Council. The plenary session of the Congress was attended by the Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka along with the Honorable Speaker of the Parliament Mr. Karu Jayasuriya.
6th Training on Structural and Seismic Engineering scheduled
From November 28th to December 1st, the 6th training of the Structural and Seismic Engineering will be held in Kathmandu, Nepal hosted by Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Three engineers specializing on building instructions, safety and security, as well as renovation will be dispatched from the Housing and Architecture Bureau of Yokohama City to share their experiences in the building inspection process and seismic engineering.
