Register to CityNet 37th Executive Committee Meeting and International Seminar

The 37th Executive Committee Meeting will take place in Da Nang on 21-22 November 2018. At this annual meeting, CityNet’s Executive Committee Members discuss the organization’s activities and plans. The meeting will be held back-to-back with the International Seminar ‘Investing in Sustainable Urbanization’ which will focus on city finance and urban infrastructure investments. This event will provide a platform for city leaders, practitioners and finance experts to share best practices and discuss how smart infrastructure investments can foster sustainable urbanization.

2018 Suwon Forum on Asian Human City “Human City for All”

In collaboration with CityNet, Suwon City Government holds the 2018 Suwon Forum on Asian Human City from 17-18 September 2018. This Forum will provide a platform to share human-centered urban policies and cooperative network for urban development in Asia. With an overarching theme of “Human City for All”, this comprehensive Forum will explore areas such as residential and urban regeneration, urban resilience and recovery, and citizen democracy. The previous 2017 Suwon Forum was met with positive response from 511 participants from 15 countries, 21 municipalities and 53 organizations, including administrations, regional networks and academic institutions. Climate Leadership Programme phase II

Following the success of the first phase of Climate Leadership Programme held in 2017, CItyNet Climate Change cluster leader Jakarta City organises the second phase taking place in October this year to focus on building vision of future city management and leadership development, which will contain: collective action, multi-stakeholders dialogue, future city management, reflection into a prototype idea. More details will follow in the weeks to come.

CityNet clusters establish concrete plans for 2019

The leaders and co-leaders of four CityNet Clusters – climate change, infrastructure, disaster, and SDGs – convened in Kuala Lumpur to brainstorm and present their plans and programme activities for the next year (2019) through the strategic meeting. CityNet envisions CityNet clusters as thematic hubs for showcasing peer learning and city-to-city cooperation in Asia.

KLRTC workshop on urban transport and Infrastructure Cluster Meeting

The CityNet Infrastructure Cluster co-leader, Kuala Lumpur City Hall hosted the 2018 CityNet Infrastructure Cluster Meeting and the XXXII session of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Training Center (KLRTC) workshop focusing on Sustainable Urban Transportation for the New Urban Agenda” from July 24-26. In conjunction with the workshop, Kuala Lumpur also organised the infrastructure cluster meeting as the Infrastructure cluster co-leader. You can view the photos from the event here.

Urban Transport workshop focusing on BRT

2018 Transportation Strategy Workshop for Asian Cities focusing on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a collaboration between CityNet, SHRDC and The World Bank. The workshop connected urban professionals from Bogor, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang cities to discuss BRT best practices and transportation problems in the Asia Pacific region. Participants had the opportunity to exchange innovative practices and explore potential solutions of the problems arose.

Report: Jakarta cross learning visit to Seoul

In March this year CityNet facilitated a cross learning visit of Jakarta Metropolitan to Seoul Metropolitan focusing on youth’s participation in urban resilience. The objective of this visit aims to facilitate and to improve the capacity development of the local government to achieve a more resilient Jakarta through the participation of community, children, youth, and women. CitynEt Yokohama Project Office

Iloilo, Kathmandu, Makati and NSET stress the importance of C2C Cooperation at AMCDRR

CITYNET members Iloilo, Kathmandu and Makati participated in the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) from July 3-6 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to present their achievements on DRR through city-to-city cooperation. Along with the three cities, National Society for Earthquake Technologies (NSET), Nepal also pointed out on the importance of C2C cooperation for knowledge exchange at the local levels. A side session on ‘Initiatives to Impact’ was organized by CITYNET Yokohama Project Office with UCLG-ASPAC as a partnering institution.

KDDI Foundation installs 60 computers for e-learning in Lalitpur in collaboration with CITYNET Yokohama Project Office

To improve and support the learning environment for the Nepalese public schools, KDDI Foundation partnered with CITYNET Yokohama Project Office and OLE-Nepal to install 60 computers in 3 public schools of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Nepal. The computers will provide students from grades 1-10 with access to over 8,000 books and over 3,000 videos, making the learning process more viable and exciting for the students.

CYO welcomes new secondment staff from Taipei City Government

Chien-Wen (Cynthia) Peng is the CYO’s secondment staff from Taipei City Government, where she has worked for four years with the Taipei City Office of Commerce. She is interested in environmental protection and circular economy. Through her six-month secondment term, she wishes to learn about the challenges faced by CITYNET’s member cities and how CYO’s knowledge exchanges and resources are utilized to face these challenges.
