CityNet 37^th Executive Committee Meeting Discusses the Investment Gap for Sustainable Urbanization

CityNet and Da Nang People’s Committee convened city mayors, city officials, urban stakeholders and international experts across the Asia Pacific region for the 2018 CityNet Executive Committee Meeting to voice the cities’ challenges and solutions as well as to network and form partnerships with other CityNet members and partners. The event took place from November 21-22 in Da Nang City Administrative Center.

Lalitpur to host CityNet 38^th Executive Committee Meeting in 2019

As approved in the 37^th session of the Executive Committee held in Da Nang on 21 November 2018, Lalitpur Metropolitan City will be the next host of the Meeting in 2019 which will be held in the last quarter of the year. Lalitpur Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan expressed the city’s willingness to host the event particularly to highlight the city’s cultural and historical heritage and best practices to international colleagues.

Climate Leadership Program Phase II Sets Pace on Mitigation and Adaptation

CityNet and the Climate Change cluster leader Jakarta organised the second phase of the Climate Leadership Program from from 6-8 November 2018 to focus on building vision of future city management and leadership development. Climate Leadership Program is CityNet’s Climate Change Cluster-led activity that intends to explore various potentials and initiatives of various Climate Change action programs that exist in each city that can be disseminated to encourage the growth and development of innovation in each city. The second phase program contained collective actions, multi-stakeholder dialogue, future city management, reflection into a prototype idea. The third and last phase of this Leadership Program will be held in 2019.

CityNet National Chapter Indonesia visits Seoul for a Study Visit on Healthy Cities

On 13th of November, CityNet National Chapter Indonesia delegation visited Seoul for a study visit on healthy cities and hospital management. The delegation comprised 29 city officials and specialists from public health departments and medical institutions from nine different cities. The study visit did not only consist of classroom-based activity but also site visit to three places: Seoul Emergency Operations Center, Seoul Medical Center, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine in Gangnam district.

CityNet Participates in the 4th Asian Dialogue

The 4th Asian Dialogue was held on the 9th of November with a slogan of ‘higher gender equality, more localization’ at Seoul Women’s Plaza. The forum was co-hosted by Seoul Foundation of Women & Family, Huairou Commission, Korea SDGs Network, and CityNet. Asian Dialogue is an international network for knowledge sharing and discussion on challenges that Asian women encounter and best practices.

National Chapter Indonesia holds its annual meeting

The National Chapter Indonesia host Sidoarjo Regency organised its annual meeting on 5 November taking place in Jakarta. This is the first meeting held by Sidoarjo Regency since the city was elected as the new National Chapter Indonesia host in 2017. The Regent of Sidoarjo led the meeting that aimed at reactivating its members and planning their activities in 2019. They encouraged all Indonesian members to participate in CityNet program activities and to expand their membership in the country.

CityNet Highlights the Innovation in Smart City

Highlighting the role of city in smart city innocation and how a city network could facilitate, CityNet took part in the discussion on “Innovation & Startup ecosystem in Smart City” in the Smart City Tech Conference as part of the 4th BIXPO 20180 in Gwangju, Korea. BIXPO was held from October 31- November 2, 2018 aimed to serve various needs required by the fast-changing world of electric power industry through its New Technology Exhibition, International Conference and International Invention Fair.

CityVoices Autumn/Winter edition on city finance released

The Autumn/Winter edition of CityVoices magazine has just been released, focusing on Investing in Sustainable Urban Infrastructure. This issue highlights good practices and success stories of Asian cities in sustainable urban infrastructure investment as local governments are increasingly expected to shoulder greater responsibilities for the financing of their infrastructure investments.

Creating a Human City: Review of the Suwon Forum 2018

For the past 3 years, CityNet and Suwon City have collaborated to organize the Suwon Forum which is an annual event centered on the creation of an “Asia Human City” and was made to facilitate the sharing of best practices and strategies needed to create a better living environment for the population. This year’s theme was titled “Human Cities for All” and featured topics such as Urban Regeneration, Housing Welfare, Urban Resilience, and Civic Democracy. Yokohama City University student proposes ideas to support Japanese SMEs

The research conducted by Yokohama City University Students indicate that there are 88 Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SMEs) in Yokohama however a mere 0.015% has ventured abroad. While an increasing number of SMEs are seeking opportunities to expand their businesses abroad and to utilize their skills as well as technology to benefit the developing cities, fundamental issues have refrained them from undertaking the challenge.

National Chapter Indonesia visits Japan to learn about healthy city initiatives

A delegation composed of 30 members from various provinces as well as cities of Indonesia visited Yokohama to learn about health initiatives taken by Yokohama and to understand the framework on hospital anagement. Representatives from Yokohama’s Health and Social Welfare Bureau presented some initiatives on how Yokohama promotes healthy living to its citizens and how the public health system works in Japan.

CityNet Disaster Cluster presents the cluster plans at the 37^th ExCom Meeting

As a part of the annual program, CITYNET Disaster Cluster presented its ongoing development of the plans for the cluster. Earlier this year, during the Strategic Clusters Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur in July and the 11th CITYNET Disaster Cluster Seminar held in Iloilo in September, members of the CITYNET Disaster Cluster drafted practical plans to be accomplished during the next one-year period with overall plans beyond the one-year term.
