Call for Host City of CityNet Executive Committee Meeting 2018-2019

CityNet Secretariat is encouraging its members to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) to bid for the hosting of the 2018 and 2019 CityNet Executive Committee Meetings. Secretary-General Vijay Jagannathan said hosting Executive Committee Meeting is a privileged opportunity to highlight the city's cultural and historical heritage and best practices to international colleagues.

2017 CityNet Congress registration deadline extended

The registration deadline to participate in the upcoming 2017 CityNet Congress has been extended to 22 September 2017. Don't forget to register your participation to this year's Congress that will held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 5-8 November focusing on "Our City, Our Future: Sharing Local Solutions for Sustainable Development". We encourage city leaders across the Asia Pacific region to join this unmissable opportunity to voice urban challenges and form partnership with various urban stakeholders, from water management to the role of local governments in implementing SDGs.

Call for CityNet Cluster Leads and Co-Leads 2018-2021

CityNet is encouraging its members to submit applications for cluster lead and co-leads for the term 2018-2021. During the 2017 CityNet Congress in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 5-8 November, members will elect their new cluster lead and co-lead/s. Secretary-General Vijay Jagannathan, in his notice to members, encouraged the members to apply, "Being a lead or co-lead gives your city/ organization leverage in our policy-decision making process and access to important local government activities in the region."

Climate Leadership Program phase 1 held in Jakarta

The first phase of the Climate Leadership Program was held on 28-30 August by CityNet in collaboration with Jakarta Research Council and UCLG ASPAC coordinated by the CityNet Climate Change cluster leader, Jakarta Capital City Government. This phase focused on Leadership and City management under climate change impacts. The three-phase workshop is aimed as an effort to anticipate future climate risks by cultivating new collaborative leaders with global values and adaptive initiatives. The next phase is planned for 2018.

2017 Urban Lighting Workshop in Seoul - Benefits of Sustainable Urban Lighting

On 29-30 June, CityNet, in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and LUCI (the international network of cities on urban lighting), held a workshop on Urban Lighting in Seoul.40 participants from 8 countries and 16 cities/organizations joined the workshop. Overall, the 2-day workshop that was supported by Philips Lighting Korea gave a strong sense of the varied range of issues that Asian cities need to engage in order to do strategic urban lighting, with the added challenge of dealing with cities of very different sizes, histories and resources.

Yokohama City representatives visit Seoul

Expressing their support to the 2017 CityNet Congress that will take place in Colombo on 5-8 November, the representatives from the City of Yokohama paid a courtesy visit to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on 1 August. The Executive Director of the International Affairs Bureau, Mr. Toru Hashimoto, accompanied by Mr. Yuhi Kuwata and Ms. Akiko Namba, met Ambassador of the International Relations for the SMG, Kim Chang-beom, and the Director General of International Cooperation Bureau, Mr. Hoiseung Lee.

CityNet visits Colombo in preparation of the 2017 Congress

In preparation of the 2017 CityNet Congress, the delegation from CityNet Secretariat that consisted of the CityNet Assistant Secretary General, Director of Programs, Director of Operations, Senior Program Officer, and Congress Coordinator visited Colombo, Sri Lanka, to ensure the smooth execution of this quadrennial event in November.

CityNet meets the representatives of Municipal Government of Kuala Lumpur

Following the mission to Colombo, CityNet representatives paid a visit to the Municipal Government of Kuala Lumpur on 17th August 2017 to extend the Congress invitation as well as to foster the Government's active role within the network given its extensive urban development.

CityNet's courtesy visit to Colombo former mayor

During the CityNet Secretariat visit to Kuala Lumpur, the delegation also had a chance to pay a courtesy visit to the former Mayor of Colombo Municipal Council Hon. A. J. M. Muzammil who is now holding the post of the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Malaysia. The Secretariat extended the Congress invitation to H.E. AJM Muzammil who continuously shows his support to CityNet.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Korea supports the CityNet Congress

CityNet Secretariat paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka the H.E. Ms. Manisha Gunasekera to express the gratitude for supporting the CityNet Congress in Colombo this November. She welcomed CityNet delegation consisting of Assistant Secretary General/Seoul Metropolitan Government Director General of International Cooperation Bureau Hoiseung Lee, Director of Programs Youngmin Chang, Senior Program Officer Stephani Widorini, and Congress Coordinator Wason Lee Huynh. Ambassador Gunasekera told CityNet that they will continue providing support for this important international event held in Sri Lanka.

Suwon Forum on Asian Human City

Suwon is hosting 2017 Suwon Forum on Asian Human City, which is aimed at sharing and promoting the value of human city among Asian cities. The forum will be held in Suwon's Deoham Public Complex on 25 to 26 September 2017 under the theme "Human City for All (Inclusiveness, Participation, Cultural Conviviality and Sustainability).

This October, the City of Kaohsiung will host the 3rd EcoMobility World Festival, transforming one neighborhood into a dedicated space for ecomobile transport for a month. It will be a live demonstration of how cities can take a bold step to create a forward-thinking urban transportation culture through ecomobility. The EcoMobility Congress on 2-4 October, a highlight of the Festival, will bring together local government representatives and transportation experts to discuss the future of sustainable urban transport.
