The Dialogue with Global Leaders
CityNet is organizing a dialogue with leaders from Asia and Pacific to generate new insights on the prospect of what urban future awaits the region in the post-pandemic era. Global economic contractions, massive unemployment, reduced people mobility, and an overstretched health system have become the fixtures of everyday news.
In an editorial on CityNet Special Publication on Cities against COVID-19, CityNet Secretary General Vijay Jagannathan stated that cities have emerged to become the front liners, early responders, and problem solvers from containing the local epidemic, distributing welfare to the most affected, to realigning policies and funds to cushion the impact of the virus in the community. But he also raised the issue that much of the work for recovery will be done in cities by city leaders.
This global dialogue helps build a frame of urban sustainability in the new post-pandemic order. CityNet urban leaders and partners will convene and exchange ideas, consolidate experience on the ground, and raise the prospect of developing concrete ideas as to how cities with CityNet can move forward. The global dialogue will seek consensus and inspiration on the current approaches and strategies that city governments and urban stakeholders have deployed and shared it to the audience.
