CityNet Activities

Program Activities with CityNet National Chapters All Year Round

CityNet is consulting with different hosts of National Chapter (NC) on what CityNet strategic activities can be organized for the year. CityNet Secretariat will support initiatives from National Chapters in terms of organizing capacity building activities at the national scale, membership outreach and recruitment. Moreover, CityNet Secretariat plans to put more effort to engaging NC hosts in addressing organizational challenges and supporting their national activities in 2024.

Capacity Building Program for 2023 SDG City Award Winners May
Seoul
CityNet organizes a workshop and study visit program for the 2023 SDG City Award Winners and select cities and partners providing capacity development support to benchmark programs from Seoul and fellow winners. Select participants will present exemplary practices on achieving SDGs including low carbon, zero waste, and SMG’s Going Together with the Socially Neglected (GTSN) Initiative (social welfare).

36th CityNet-Kuala Lumpur Regional Training Center Session24 April – 12 May

CityNet and Kuala Lumpur City Hall will team up again to organize the 36th training session in Kuala Lumpur. Select CityNet members will participate to share its best practices on low carbon and smart city development. CityNet members will learn urban innovation programs from Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Seoul Metropolitan Government. Participants will exchange insights with experts and peers, propose action plans, and commit to demonstrate actions in reaching their low carbon and smart city development objectives.

CityNet- Seoul Human Resource Development Center Q2

CityNet and Seoul Human Resource Development Center (SHRDC) will organize series of online sessions, sharing best practices of Seoul Metropolitan Government. SHRDC invites CityNet members to learn current Seoul’s initiatives on SDGs, low carbon, and the Going Together with the Socially Neglected (GTSN) Initiative as the main themes for this year’s capacity development.

Climate Leadership Program Learning Series Q2-Q3

The Climate Leadership Program is a leadership and peer exchange learning series that aims to increase the capacities of climate change practitioners in the Asia Pacific with the end goal of helping them transform their communities while addressing impacts of climate change. In close coordination with lead and co-lead of Climate Change Cluster, the CLP is an exchange of urban practices of both innovative national and local climate actions. Participants present their exemplary local climate actions, test different tools, and consult with peers to better improve on implementing sustainable climate solutions.

Benchmarking of CityNet Korean Members to City of YokohamaJuly
Yokohama
CityNet members in South Korea will learn how Yokohama City has made progress on localizing Sustainable Development Goals through its successful programs and policies. CityNet Korean members will engage the City of Yokohama strengthening city to city relations underscoring partnership as a key strategy. CityNet Korean members will also showcase their SDG-based programs and policies and develop plans of action on ways to improve their SDG localization.

Capacity Building Program for High-Level City OfficialsQ3
China
CityNet will organize a high-level learning program with its partners in China fostering international urban cooperation and benchmarking urban innovations. The program will focus on low-carbon, climate change adaptation and mitigation. Invited cities will present their best practices on low carbon green cities and apply the lessons learned.

International Disaster Cluster Seminar17-22 September
Taipei
Hosted by Taipei City and members of Disaster Cluster, the four-day program will feature technical sessions, live drill demonstrations, and panel discussions on disaster data governance, mainstreaming GEDSI (gender equality, disability, and social inclusion) in disaster programs and plans, and disaster-climate change risks mitigation. Another highlight is another round of cities to be signed-up into the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Making Cities Resilience 2030.

44th Executive Committee MeetingSeptember

The Executive Committee is responsible for the execution of policies established by the General Council. CityNet holds the Executive Committee Meeting at least once every two years for the Executive Committee to convene and discuss the direction of the organization.

3rd SDG Awards September
Iloilo
The SDG Awards debuted at the 9th CityNet Congress in 2022 will return for a third year! Cities will be encouraged to submit their best practice cases to the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform, and after a period of voting and evaluation, winners will be selected to be honoured at the SDG Awards Ceremony at the 44th CityNet Executive Committee in Iloilo City, Philippines.

The 2024 contest categories will be announced around March.

CityNet at SMG’s Seoul Smart Life Week2-4 October

CityNet will support Seoul Metropolitan Government’s several program activities for the Seoul Smart Life Week. Leveraging its brand as a leading smart city, Seoul Smart Life Week is week-long program of international conferences, business events, advanced technology and innovations showcase, and lifestyle trends that showcase and strengthen the city’s unique global competitiveness.
CityNet at UNFCCC COP 2911-24 November

CityNet Secretariat will participate at the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29). CityNet Secretariat will lead its delegation to promote CityNet’s regional initiatives on climate change. CityNet members will also share successful adaptation and mitigation practices. It will also partner with different international and country pavilions to co-organize different technical sessions. CityNet aims to be part of a new collective policy discussion on climate in particular that have implications for cities at COP 29.

UNESCAP Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development20-23 February Bangkok
The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) is an annual, inclusive intergovernmental forum to support follow-up and review of progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the regional level, while serving as a regional preparatory meeting to the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). The Forum provides a regional perspective on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by identifying regional trends and sharing best practices and lessons learned. The 10th APFSD will be organized from 27-30 March 2023 under the theme “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels in Asia and the Pacific” in Bangkok, at the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC).For more information, email sdgplatform@citynet-ap.org
