VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Based in Seoul, Republic of Korea, the CITYNET Secretariat looks for volunteers available to work in Seoul Secretariat Office or for CITYNET General Council (Congress of Mayors) event in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

 

Who are we looking for?

CITYNET Volunteers are dedicated individuals who can work 3-5 hours per week remotely, translating documents and contacting city officials. This position is ideal for nationals from the Asia-Pacific region who want experience working with an international organization and would like to connect their cities to the world through CITYNET’s global network.


What do volunteers do?

  • Periodically help with translation of news, announcements, and promotional materials.
  • Help contact officials from CITYNET member cities by phone and email
  • Assist with preparations for CITYNET General Council (Congress of Mayors) event in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Nov. 5-8, 2017
  • Assist with other tasks as designated by the Partner Development and Program Directors


Why should you join?

Volunteers gain experience in an international organization and a valuable line for their resumes. Further, they provide an opportunity for their home cities to access knowledge-sharing and development resources through the CITYNET network. Volunteer bios and professional photos will be displayed on translated documents, which may be hosted on our website.


What are volunteer qualifications?

  • CITYNET member city nationality. A list of members can be found at www.citynet-ap.org
  • Ability to read and understand professional English
  • Have computer access independently of Secretariat facilities
  • Experience working with governments or international organizations preferred
  • There is currently a need for native speakers in Tagalog, Indonesian, Nepali, Tamil, Sinhala, Mandarin, Bengali, Hindi, Vietnamese, Thai, Khmer, Malay, Lao, Marati, Urdu, and Mongolian.

The speakers for tomorrow's session are as follows:

Dicky Edwin Hindarto is the Advisor for Indonesia Joint Crediting System (JCM) implementation, after four years of acting as the head of the Indonesia JCM Secretariat. Mr. Hindarto has wide experience in climate change negotiations, and has served as a lead negotiator and focal point for various climate change action and carbon market cooperations.

Qing Liu is the Carbon Market Business Manager at China Emission Exchange (CEEX) Guangzhou. In her work with CEEX Guangzhou, Ms. Liu is involved with knowledge exchanges on Guangdong carbon trading with foreign universities and practitioners in low-carbon areas.

Dr. Felicia Jiang is an Associate Researcher of Natural Resources Policy at the Ministry of Natural Resources. Dr. Jiang specializes in mining policy research and the public administration of natural resources. She has a background in resource management and technical-economic evaluation.

Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto is the Mayor of Bogor City. He is in his sixth year as Mayor and has the goal of developing Bogor as a Smart City, a Heritage City, and a Green City. Bogor has successfully increased its green spaces across the city, has been focusing on ecomobility as a priority of development. Under his leadership, Bogor City was awarded the Smart City rating by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.

Allendri B. Angeles is the Acting City Environment and Natural Resources Officer and the Solid Waste Management Officer of Pasig City. During his 13 years as a Solid Waste Management Officer, he has led Pasig City to receive numerous awards. Pasig City has consistently been named as one of the best at implementing local innovations on solid waste management in Metro Manila.
