About Clusters

Clusters are subgroup of CityNet members who plan, organize, lead city to city exchanges based on shared interests and urban themes. CityNet Clusters showcase expertise and share policies and experiences that impact their cities and their citizens across the Asia Pacific region.

Cluster leads and co leads are expected to take charge and initiate meaningful activities that enhance international cooperation and promote solidarity.

Climate Change

With members spanning some of the most vulnerable cities to climate extremes, Climate Change Cluster develops and shares effective local climate actions. The Cluster organizes the annual Climate Leadership Program or the CLP. The cluster members share insights on global trends while developing urban innovations on green, climate-resilient, economy.

Jakarta Capital City Government

Jakarta City is the largest city in Southeast Asia and serves as the diplomatic capital of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The city is the centre of the economy, culture, and politics of Indonesia. The city has a population of more than 10 million.

Quezon City Government

Quezon City is the most populous city and is the second largest city in terms of land area in the Philippines. It is located within the country’s National Capital Region. It is a center for culture, entertainment industry and media.

Ahmedabad Study Action Group (ASAG)

Based in Chennai, ASAG is a non-government organization run by concerned professionals committed by suing their skills for public causes like slum development, disaster rehabilitation, low-cost housing, and policy advocacy. It is a sister organization with Habitat Forum (INHAF), an Indian non-profit registered in 1999, is a network of professionals, civil society organizations, academe working in the human settlements development field.

Human and Environment Link Progressive Organization (HELP-O)

HELP‐O is a national organization based in Galle, Sri Lanka that aims at developing and balancing human and environmental progress in both urban and rural areas, focusing on the low‐income community. In partnership with Sri Lanka local governments and private sector, its work cuts across solid waste management, environmental urban conservation, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and low carbon development.

International Climate Development Institute (ICDI)

ICDI is a non-profit organization that focuses on climate change, human rights, intergenerational justice, and developing rights, and actively participates in international activities. Based in Taipei, ICDI assists different stakeholders in capacity building, energy transition and the development of local adaptation strategies to help communities move towards a climate-resilient and sustainable life.

Disaster

Disaster Cluster is a platform for exchange of urban innovations and technical cooperation programs with the aim to strengthen urban resilience. It conducts an annual survey for their members and captures new information for members on their progress in the implementation of Sendai Framework, a global agreement to develop national and local actions to reduce disaster risks and build back better in disaster recovery.

Makati City Government

Makati City is the financial center and home of many multinational and local corporations in the Philippines. It is among the cities located within the National Capital Region.

Colombo Municipal Council

Colombo Municipal Council is Sri Lanka’s largest city and home to around a million people. It has the one of the busiest ports in the South Asia. It has served as the main commercial capital of Sri Lanka which dated back as far as 200 years.

Matsuyama City

Matsuyama City is the capital city of the Ehime Prefecture in Japan. The city is known for its castle hilltop, hot springs, and century old Japanese traditional bath houses. The city is also an important pilgrimage city.

Quezon City Government

Quezon City is the most populous city and is the second largest city in terms of land area in the Philippines. It is located within the country’s National Capital Region. It is a center for culture, entertainment industry, and media.

Taoyuan City Government

Taoyuan City is the gateway city to Chinese Taipei. It is home to Taoyuan International Airport. Forty percent (40%) of total global electronics and semiconductor manufacturing companies in Chinese Taipei are located in Taoyuan City.

Plus Arts

Plus Arts is an international non-profit that focuses on planning and implementing creative disaster prevention projects with urban stakeholders. With offices in Kobe and Tokyo, Plus Arts’ work ranges from international capacity building and art exhibition activities. It is working to introduce creative ideas and solving social issues with disaster prevention and making cities more resilient.

National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET)

NSET is Nepal's foremost institution working on earthquake risk management. It is a non-profit organization working with Nepali cities and organizations fostering the advancement of science and practice of earthquake engineering and technology for mitigating the earthquake risk and increasing the seismic safety. Its main office is located in Lalitpur, Nepal.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Sustainable Development Goals Cluster supports cities and organizations to localize the Sustainable Development Goals. The SDG clusters work through capacity building, benchmarking SDG-inspired practices, and city to city technical cooperation.  SDG Cluster members upload their cases to the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform website, an open database of policies and good initiatives on localizing SDGs.

A bustling metropolis, Kuala Lumpur is one of the leading capitals in Southeast Asia with thriving tourism and international shopping destinations.

Yokohama City

Yokohama City is the second largest city in Japan and home to major economic, cultural, and commercial hubs of the Greater Tokyo Area. It is a major port city and houses many Japanese multinational companies.

All India Institute for Local Self Government (AIILSG)

All India Institute of Local Self Government (AIILSG) is a premier, India government-recognized institute working with states and central governments in fields of education, training research, advocacy, seminars, and workshops. With 30 centers spread across Indian cities, AIILSG has been active in building capacities for local officials for effective administration and implementation of various programs.
